EN	STAT \| signal transducer and activator of transcription One of a family of proteins that mediate the actions of cytokines and growth factors. When the cytokine or growth factor receptor is occupied, a tyrosine residue of the STAT is phosphorylated and the STAT forms a homoor hetero-dimer with another STAT. The dimer migrates to the nucleus where it binds to specific DNA sequences and activates transcription of neighboring genes. [О. С.
