Концепция «Хаб энд Споук» (дословно « ступица и спицы») предполагает сбор грузов через единый пункт («хаб» - сортировочный центр) и распределение по различным направлениям («споукс» - «спицы»). Сортировочный центр – центральный пункт сбора, сортировки, перевалки и распределения грузов для определенного региона (района).

Für den Umschlag intermodaler Transporteinheiten (ITE) von einem Verkehrsträger auf einen anderen und für die Lagerung intermodaler Ladeeinheiten ausgerüsteter Ort.
Mit dem Begriff „Nabe-Speiche“ wird die Bedienung von in verschiedenen Richtungen liegenden Bedarfspunkten (Speichen) von einem zentralen Knotenpunkt (Nabe) aus beschrieben. Nabe bezeichnet dabei das Verteilzentrum, in dem die Güter für ein bestimmtes Gebiet zusammengeführt, sortiert, umgeschlagen und verteilt werden.

Il luogo attrezzato per il cambio di modalità e il deposito di unità di trasporto intermodale (UTI).
Con l'espressione "hub and spoke" si designa un modello di raccolta tramite un punto centrale (hub) e di distribuzione in varie direzioni (spoke). L'hub è il punto centrale di raccolta, smistamento, trasbordo e distribuzione delle merci destinate a una determinata area.
