Core Balance CTs are special CTs used to detect Earth faults & usually used for Restricted Earth Fault Protection.
It is a ring type CT through which the cables carrying current of all the three phases (R,Y & B) are passed through. (In a 3phase 3 wire system)
Under normal operating conditions, summation of current through the three phases shall be equal to zero. In event of a fault, the summation of the current shall no longer remain zero (zero sequence current shall flow during earth fault) & thus the fault can be detected.

P144 - reconstruction of the missing phase current

The P144 relay is designed to function with inputs from only 2 phase CTs and one core balance CT (CBCT).
Since only two phases are presented to the relay, the relay must derive the missing phase current using the available phase and earth current.

Для работы устройства защиты P144 достаточно подключить к его входам два трансформатора фазного тока и один ТТ нулевой последовательности.
Поскольку в этом случае устройство защиты получает информацию только о двух фазных токах, оно должно вычислить недостающий фазный тока по имеющимся фазным токам и току нулевой последовательности.
